Justin Bieber proposed marriage to his on/off girlfriend Selena Gomez but the songstress refused, according to media reports.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship has been more topsy-turvy than a rollercoaster ride and more unpredictable than the weather. One moment they're inseparable and the next minute they hate the sight of each other. Guess that's what young love is all about! The heart wants what it wants!

After innumerable breakups and make-ups, it seems like the troubled "Girlfriend" singer now wants to take things to the next level. Last month the actor was spotted buying an engagement ring. According to a Life & Style magazine report, Bieber popped the question to Gomez, but she turned down the proposal.

"Justin has told Selena he will marry her. They're young, but feel like they have a deep connection that no one else can break," a source told the magazine, according to International Business Times. The source also added that their love for each other only became stronger after a number of their family members and friends opposed their relationship.

In fact, the pair has already started "playing house" at Selena's residence, Bang Showbiz reported. Gomez allegedly put off accepting the proposal because she wanted the "As Long As You Love Me" singer to "prove to her that he's serious and stop cheating on her."

However, it seems like it's going to take Bieber a while to improve his ways. Shortly after the proposal, Bieber was spotted flirting with Chantel Jeffries, the same girl he was hanging out with when he was arrested for DUI in January.

Late last month, Jeffries also took to her Instagram account to share an intimate picture of herself, Bieber and a girl named Kayla Phillips. In the picture, the three were seen lying in bed together. A source also told Hollywood Life that Bieber and Jeffries have "unfinished business."

"He thinks she's hot and he's so impressed that she never sold him out like she could have, so he's down to show her some love, especially when he's fighting with Selena," the source said.

Only time will tell if Bieber finally ends up marrying Gomez. As of now, even with a proposal, the two are far from being in a steady relationship, let alone working on marriage!
