Samsung is reportedly working on a successor to Galaxy Mega phablet with improved specs at affordable price.

Those in love with big screen smartphones have something to look forward to as the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 was spotted on the GFX Bench with a slew of impressive features. Building on last year's Galaxy Mega smartphone line, the unannounced Mega 2 smartphone will reportedly be available with slightly upgraded specs and an affordable price tag.

Spotted on the GFX Bench, the Galaxy Mega 2 is expected to carry a larger 5.9-inches display compared to its 5.8-inch predecessor.

Specs on GFX Bench indicate the unannounced Mega 2 will carry the same resolution as its previous models at 1,280 x 720 pixels. Other details include a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor to power up the smartphone along with 2GB of RAM. For the camera, the Mega 2 will boast 12-megapixel rear-facing shooter with flash and a 4.7-megapixel on the front. The camera will not feature HDR photo mode but options like autofocus, face detection and touch to focus will come aboard.

The storage capacity of the Mega 2 is listed as 8GB, while no information on options to expand via microSD is immediately available.

The device will run Android 4.4.3, Google's latest KitKat version, along with standard connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. The benchmark listing also shows the smartphone to be fitted with sensors like gyroscope, proximity, light sensor and accelerometer.

Benchmark sightings are a precursor to official confirmations and are often spotted ahead of an announcement. Rumors of new Mega models have circulated the web for a few months but details on the launch remain scanty.

Like the previous Mega models, 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch, the upcoming Mega 2 will serve as an alternative to the Galaxy Note series. This translates in to the smartphone coming with an affordable price tag.
