Apple Inc. is kicking off the summer with a special deal that offers gift cards for students, parents, and teachers looking to buy an iPhone, iPad or Mac for school.

For the "back to school" promotion, consumers who buy a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, or iMac will be eligible to receive a $100 gift card through email, according to PC Magazine. A $50 gift card will be available to those who buy an iPhone or iPad.

iPads available in the offer include the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPad 4, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, and iPad Air. Apple said the $50 gift card will not be given to consumers who get an iPhone free through their carrier.

Consumers will be able to use the gift cards at Apple's online store, its retail outlets, and purchases made over the phone, which are done by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE, CNET reported.

The company usually introduces its "back to school" deal around this time; last year's deal also offered $100 and $50 gift cards. While consumers were only able in the past to use the cards for items in the Apple store, iTunes store, and iBookstore, this year Apple is letting consumers use the cards to buy any product in its online and retail stores.

The deal also offers discounts on iPad and Mac through the company's educational pricing, which include up to $30 on a new iPad and $200 off a new Mac.

Only college students, students accepted to a college, parents buying for a college student, and faculty or staff members of all grade levels can get a gift card or qualify for education pricing. Consumers can use a .edu email address online or bring formal documentation into an Apple store to prove their status.
