Google is adding a new music feature to its mobile search engine that lets users search for a song or artist and play immediately on popular music streaming apps.

Google, the largest internet search provider, launched a new feature that allows users to search for a band or an artist and play it immediately on a favorite music app.

"Starting today, when you ask Google about a musician, you can simply tap a link to play their music right in one of your installed apps," Google said in an announcement on its Inside Search blog, Thursday.

The move comes just two weeks after a survey from analytics firm eMarketer showed Google is not the popular choice among mobile users for internet searches.

The new music feature tunes users' choice of music from popular apps like Spotify, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Rdio, Google Play, and YouTube as well.

Smartphone users are choosing apps over search on mobile. With the significant growth of smartphone usage across the world, companies have apps to offer all services clubbed into one place so users know where to turn to if they need any information. And by updating its search engine, Google is trying to connect with these mobile apps.

Google is working on marking individual pages inside native mobile apps that can redirect users to the right place by simply searching on Google.com. The tech titan has also been working with several companies to integrate restaurant searches, travel related searches, news, photos and more into its network, TechCrunch reports.

Google is currently working on bringing the new music search feature to worldwide users with deeper integration with local music search services such as Deezer, but the feature is limited to Android users in the United States.
