AT&T will reportedly sell Amazon's new 3-D smartphone when it's eventually released, USA Today announced Tuesday.

Previous reports suspected the online retailer would unveil the product during the company's special gadget launch Wednesday. The event would enter Amazon into a tough smartphone business market that tech giants Apple and Samsung currently run.

IDC research information shows that together, the companies control 45 percent of market shares in global smartphone shipments from a manufacturer, according to USA Today.

A principal analyst at Enderle Group told Marketwatch when plans for the phone were announced that the online retailer is changing its focus from offering equipment to servicing mobile devices.

"What [Amazon CEO Jeff] Bezos will be doing is flipping it from a hardware model to a services model," Rob Enderle said at the time. "Bezos is a disruptive element, and making life miserable for everyone."

Enderle also mentioned that the phone's 3-D display allows customers to conveniently view the smartphone's many apps.

"A 3-D screen will allow you to basically have multiple virtual panels you can see into the device," Enderle said. "You could get a ton more space to put stuff on, and then rotate the box to sharpen the focus on the item you want."

In addition to 3-D elements, the device's Omron Okao Vision face-sensing technology will detect a consumer's eye movements via six cameras, according to Tech Crunch.

Amazon also wants to see the 3-D eye-tracking concept expand. It hopes developers show interest and make other apps from Omron. The technology can detect information about a consumer's face and characteristics. Gender, age and ethnicity is also analyzed.

Increasing sales is another goal. The online retailer will examine information it collects about where consumers use their smartphones. The company also plans to record the apps consumers download, including programs for videos, household applications and e-books.
