Morrissey has canceled his North American tour for the second time in two years.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the rock star and former Smiths frontman contracted a respiratory infection in Miami. The infection has reportedly worsened, causing the singer to cancel all the remaining dates of his U.S. tour.

A statement released Tuesday on Morrissey's Facebook page read, "It is with great sadness that the remainder of the US Tour has been canceled. The respiratory infection Morrissey contracted in Miami has worsened, and in the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted. Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates."

His U.S. tour began in early May in San Jose and was scheduled to run through the end of June at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Morrissey, 55, collapsed after his Boston show on June 7 and was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with a fever.

After his Miami show Morrissey canceled a show at Atlanta's Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center and at the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Morrissey's has also cancelled all rescheduled shows of his tour.

According to the New York Daily News, the legendary singer reportedly caught the virus from his opening act singer/songwriter Kristeen Young, who admitted to having a ''horrendous cold'' while on tour. Young, who claims she was asked to leave the tour, denies the symptoms were passed on to Morrissey.

"I had an allergy attack that was over within 16 hours," Young wrote in a Facebook post. ''I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well. But I will not tolerate these lies... particularly about my health. This is too much and bizarre."

The rock star has been touring to support his upcoming album, "World Peace Is None of Your Business," which is scheduled to be released on July 15.
