Facebook has rolled out an update for both its Android and iOS apps. Android  gets a slew of features and  the iOS app gets improved Nearby Friends feature.

Facebook, the biggest social networking site, is beefing up its efforts to improve the mobile experience on Android and iOS platforms. The social network rolled out an update to Android with new additions such as offline liking, removing tags, switching posts notification status and overall improvement. The Facebook app for iOS was also updated to version 11.0 with little changes to the speed and reliability, but a TechCrunch report notes the update has two new features to offer.

According to the report, the US version of the iOS app includes a new "search" and "invite friends" options for its Nearby Friends feature. Users can activate the Nearby Friends, which is optional and hidden in the "More" menu of the app, by tapping on the '+' sign in the new search bar. Once the recipient turns on the feature, users can look up their approximate location and distance.

Facebook confirmed the feature to TechCrunch but did not mention in the update release notes in app description as it is available to US app users only.

On the other hand, the Android users are welcomed to try quite a few additions. The biggest change noted in the Facebook for Android app is the offline liking, which means users can like photos posts and pages even when there is no internet connection. The app stores the activity and communicates the same to the servers once the connection is back online.

Facebook version 10.0 brings the ability to switch post notifications on and off, remove self-created tags and untag from friends' posts, photos or pages, from within the app. These features were available on desktop only. Facebook also promises improved speed and reliability of the app in its new update.

Facebook is available for download from Google Play Store and Apple App Store for free. Users can also update their apps from respective app stores.
