Jared Remy, son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Tuesday, according to Fox News.

Remy, 35, entered his guilty plea in Middlesex Superior Court nine months after his girlfriend, 27-year-old Jennifer Martel, was found stabbed to death at their Waltham apartment.

Aside from murder, Remy was also charged with assault and battery and violating a restraining order. He faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

On Aug. 13, Remy was arrested after he allegedly pushed Martel into a mirror. After being released, he killed Martel on Aug. 15.

When police officers arrived at Martel's house after receiving 911 calls, they discovered her bloodied body laying on the patio. According to authorities, a neighbor allegedly witnessed Remy stabbing Martel and tried to stop him.

In an interview with The Boston Herald after the incident, Remy denied allegations that he was responsible for Martel's murder.

"No. That's ridiculous. How dumb would I have to be? I loved her, I still love her," he said when a reporter asked if he killed his girlfriend. According to The Herald, he denied to comment further on his innocence.

Remy and Martel have a 5-year-old daughter together. Following Martel's death, she was placed in state custody.

"I just want her to be happy. I love her ... I want her to have everything in life she deserves," Remy said of his daughter to The Herald.

Remy had a troubled past prior to his relationship with Martel. After allegations that Remy and another Red Sox security employee were using steroids in 2009, officials launched a full investigation which led to both men being fired. In an interview with The Boston Globe the same year, Remy admitted to steroid use.

In the same interview, he also admitted to abusing a former girlfriend in 2005.
