Tile is a tiny gadget that attaches to almost anything so it can be tracked and the makers have started shipping them already.

Misplacing car keys or a wallet can be extremely irritating. What's worse is one cannot locate them despite sifting through the entire house at great loss of time and patience. A new gadget called "Tile" is here to save all such troubles as its makers claim the tiny gadget to be the "world's largest lost and found."

Tile, which was originally announced two years ago, works seamlessly with almost anything. The tiny square chip attaches to any belonging, including something as small as a wallet or a phone or something as big as a bike. The startup wants its customers to be free from the worry of locating lost items. Tile and its companion iOS app helps its users locate and manage multiple Tiles and find the attached item within a 100-150 foot radius.

Tile was covered by several news sites last year for its successful Selfstarter campaign,  which raised $2.6 million, a far cry from its projected goal of $20,000. The tiny gadget suddenly found close to 50,000 backers for its unique feature of limitless scanning of objects. Even though it relies on a Bluetooth connection, its range can go beyond that by clipping into the Bluetooth connection of neighboring iPhones running the Tile app.

Tile app also features the last recorded location in case the connection with the Tile is lost. The companion app guides users towards the Tile with a proximity meter and a sound to help locate faster. The Tiles does not require a charge and runs for a year, after which users can replace it.

Tile updated its Twitter page with a message about its shipments, which ranged in hundreds last week. In a separate report from Yahoo News, in December last year, Tile co-founder and CEO Nick Evans said his company has sold more than 450,000 tiles to 125,000 subscribers.
