While Vice President Joe Biden turned down a Connecticut teenager's prom invitation, he made up for it by sending a corsage and invite to the White House, according to POLITICO.

Talia Maselli, a student at Newington High School, sent the invitation to Biden last fall though she never expected receiving a response.

"Joe Biden makes me laugh," Maselli told The Harford Courant. "He just cracks me up."

In the letter, she called him "the most delightful man in America."

"I am inviting you so far in advance because I'm sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations, and I had to beat them to it," Maselli said in the letter. "I could only tolerate a high school dance if I was to be escorted by the most delightful man in America."

Maselli, 18, also warned Biden that if he turns her down, she might invite her second choice -- House Speaker John Boehner.

Last week, the teen received a handwritten letter from Biden and a red, white, and blue corsage the vice president specifically picked out.

"I am flattered, but my schedule will not permit me to be in Connecticut on Friday evening," Biden wrote. "But I hope you will accept this corsage and enjoy your prom as much as I did mine."

Although she didn't attend the prom, Maselli said that reading the letter was "crazy" and initially believed someone was playing a prank on her.

"I was never really looking forward to going to prom," Maselli said. "I'm looking forward to going to Washington D.C."
