Samsung expanded its Galaxy Tab series with "Tab 4 Education" with a rugged build for durability, focused entirely on students.

Samsung, the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, has added a new member to its ever-growing Galaxy Tab line, the Galaxy Tab 4 Education. The latest tablet is built for classroom use and features a plethora of digital learning resources packed inside the rugged 10.1-inch slate. The technical specifications are kept at its low form, but the move appears to be intentional considering the use of the tablet is targeted at schools.

Samsung is hoping the features and the efficient price of the Galaxy Tab 4 Education is a winning factor to push as many tablets during the back-to-school shopping season. The tablet is equipped with a 10.1-inch WXGA display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, a protective case and Corning Gorilla Glass.

"Samsung is committed to powering education by empowering educators, and this requires technology that is built specifically for the classroom environment," Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung's Enterprise Business Division, said in a press release, Thursday. "This new Galaxy Tab, designed for education, is an important step toward achieving that vision as it combines the accessibility and engagement of our leading tablet devices with simple, intuitive management tools to foster a more interactive and effective learning environment."

The Galaxy Tab 4 Education is powered by 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB built-in storage and a 6,800mAh battery, enough to last for up to 10 hours. Users can also expand the memory up to 64GB via microSD cards and share files using NFC and a HDMI port. Samsung's core features such as Multi Window lets student multi-task and use All Share Cast for projecting content on supported devices wirelessly.

Samsung also said that the tablet will be compatible with a future upgrade to Samsung School and users can pay an additional $30 per device for Google Apps for Education web console.

Samsung has priced the Tab 4 Education at $369.99, lower than its chief rival Apple, which sells the iPad for K-12 education market for $399. But the company faces stiff competition from Asus, as the Transformer Pad for education starts at $269.
