Three children waiting at a bus stop were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Massachusetts on Thursday, WCVB-TV reported.

The incident occurred in Brockton near Warren Avenue and Myrtle Street around 8 a.m. According to The Enterprise, the woman driving the car sped up and tried to beat the school bus' stop sign.

The Massachusetts State Police are searching for the driver, whose car was described as red with New Jersey license plates.

Witnesses said the woman initially got out of the car. However, after telling a female passenger in her car that she did not have a license, she got back in and fled the scene.

Shortly after, she decided to flee on foot, witnesses said.

The school principal and nurse responded to the scene and all three kids were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The age of the victims are unknown.

Descriptions of the driver and her passenger were not available.
