Apple has achieved the remarkable milestone of 50 billion apps downloaded from App store in less than 15 months after announcing the 25 billionth app download.

Apple has every reason to be proud for holding the number one position in the maximum apps downloaded from its platform. In March last year, Apple announced that it had crossed the 25 billion download mark via App store, and in just a matter of 15 months, the number has doubled.

It took nearly 4 years to reach 25 billion and only 15 months to cross the 50 billion unique downloads, Apple is definitely making advancements looking at its progress graph.

Apple also rewarded the lucky winner who downloaded the 50 billionth app. Brandon Ashmore of Mentor, Ohio, was declared the winner of the $10,000 App Store Gift Card and the following 50 people who downloaded apps from the App store were awarded with $500 App Store Gift Cards. According to Ashmore, the app he downloaded was "Say the Same Thing," a game from Space Inch, LLC.

"Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in a press release. "The App Store completely transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers. We're absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years."

The App Store started in 2008 with only 500 apps, it currently has 850,000 apps for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPads with more than 350,000 native iPad apps. The App store gives a wide range of apps sorted in different categories including games, business, news, sports, health & fitness and travel.
