Microsoft announced a new update for OneDrive desktop client and Android app with a plethora of features that make  cloud storage more competitive.

Microsoft, is upping the ante on its cloud storage service by bringing new features. The company has rolled out a significant update to OneDrive for desktop and Android that includes series of changes. The update to desktop allows users to customize the album cover and also share videos directly to Facebook, while the mobile app gets five new features.

The update, which was announced Tuesday, brings new and improved layout for users to glance through hundreds of photos and videos. The "All Photos" tab in OneDrive was only able to display photos as tiny thumbnails, but the update has not only clubbed the videos and photos in one place but has increased the size of the thumbnails for better viewing. Other changes include an option to choose a photo for the album cover, which until now displayed rotating covers to give a peak into the photos inside. As for the albums, users can add more photos to a previously shared collection without having to create a new folder. Select Shared view and right click on the group and select Add to upload new photos.

Microsoft has also added support to share videos to Facebook directly from OneDrive. Users had the option to share photos with friends on the world's largest social network but to videos could only be shared from device storage. After the update, users can post videos and let other users watch them from the site and comment, like, share, tag and perform all basic Facebook actions.

OneDrive For Android

The mobile app has also been updated with new and helpful features. Microsoft has expanded the file sharing options on Android, which allows users to invite people, share a link to the file or send the file to other apps. Users can simply use the checkboxes to select multiple files before sharing or moving them to different folders within the app. Finally, users can also sort files by their names, dates and size.

The updated OneDrive app for Android can be downloaded for free from Google Play Store.

The latest update to OneDrive comes just a week after the software giant boosted the storage space from 25GB to 1TB for every Business user. With frequent changes to its cloud service, Microsoft is expecting to take a bigger piece of the competitive cloud storage market, where other companies like Google and Dropbox have lined up their services.
