DC Entertainment has declared July 23 will officially be known as "Batman Day," according to a news release.

"Batman Day" is meant to celebrate the caped vigilante's 75th anniversary. Fans who visit participating retailers and bookstores will receive a free, special edition of Detective Comics #27. However, DC Entertainment has not revealed which retailers will be taking place in the celebration. DC will also be giving away a free download of Detective Comics #27 on July 23.

In addition to the graphic novel giveaway, "Batman Day" will be providing retailers with new collectibles items, including special Batman masks.

Masks include:

1. Detective Comics #27: Batman's first appearance, as drawn by Bob Kane
2. Batman '66: inspired by the classic TV series starring Adam West
3. The Bark Knight Returns: As drawn by Frank Miller
4. DC Comics - THE NEW 52: As drawn by Greg Capullo

In other Batman 75th anniversary news, Jim Lee, DC co-publisher, artist, writer and editor, recently spoke with Forbes about how the DC franchise character has grown and vigilante's relevance in pop culture.

"Seventy-five years is a huge amount of time for a pop culture character," Lee told Forbes. "You look at characters like Dick Tracy or the Phantom have kind of fallen by the wayside over the years. So many of the DC characters have remained powerful ever since the time they were first published in the '30s. I mean, it was before my time. So, just the idea of kind of passing on this creative baton to the next generation is something that's paramount in our minds as we publish the stories every single month. It's an honor to be part of that history and tradition."
