Amal Alamuddin, 36, has done the impossible and snagged one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, George Clooney, 52. News of the engagement broke Monday, Apr. 28 after Alamuddin was spotted dining with Clooney wearing what was believed to be an engagement ring.

The happy news was confirmed by her law firm and Clooney's father, Nick Clooney. According to TMZ, Alamuddin's job released a statement congratulating the couple on their plans to get married.

"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr George Clooney on their engagement to be married," the statement read.

Nick Clooney also confirmed the news telling TMZ that he and his wife "are thrilled... my wife and I are absolutely thrilled... we are excited for both of them. Amal is a very lovely girl."

Even though Clooney and Alamuddin have been dating for seven months, not much is known about her. We did some snooping around the Internet and have learned some pretty interesting facts about the future Mrs. Clooney.

1. According to The Legal 500, Alamuddin "specialized in international law, human rights, criminal law and extradition." She's represented a few well-known clients including Julian Assange, the Wikileaks founder, and the Royal Court of Bahrain.

"She is also part of the legal team representing the government of Cambodia in a case involving a territorial dispute with Thailand at the International Court of Justice in The Hague," the site says. "She has previously worked as a legal advisor to judges at the International Court of Justice and the international Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and as senior legal advisor to the prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon."

2. A blog named Alamuddin as one of the 21 hottest barristers in London. The site said she was "both breathtakingly beautiful and formidably successful."

3. She's fluent in French and Arabic and she loves to travel. Alamuddin is based in London but graduated law school in New York. She and Clooney also took a trip to Tanzania to visit a safari, People reports.

4. Before Alamuddin deleted her Twitter account she had about 1,800 followers, which is pretty impressive for a lawyer. Some of her followers included Ashton Kutcher and Julia Gillard, the former prime minister of Australia, People magazine reports.

5. The brunette beauty doesn't talk about her romance with Clooney; the actor is also known to be discreet about his personal life. People magazine was one of the first publications to post about the engagement and said they received a tip from someone close to the couple. Alamuddin and Clooney have yet to publicly confirm the news but instead told close family and friends.

"George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key, but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem," the source said. "I think it's like they want to the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever."
