Diane Keaton doesn't need a man to make her happy.

At her current age of 68, Keaton has been linked to several famous actors and directors, including Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino and Sam Shepard, but in the May issue of MORE magazine, the actress reveals the reason why she never got married.

"I told myself I wanted to ... but I didn't really want a man that I could have ... I wanted the dream," she told the magazine. "I have a list of all the men I've kissed. The only one I've missed, really, is Matthew McConaughey."

The Oscar winner is the mother of two adopted teenage children, daughter Dexter, 18 and son Duke, 16. Keaton told People magazine that she sometimes wishes she had taken the trip the aisle when given the chance.

"It's not the worst tragedy," Keaton told the magazine. "But I really wish I had bought myself a man! A good man who would be a great father, I really do. I think it's a better way to go."

Keaton pondered why she never settled down, telling the magazine, "I think I was not practical. I had some insane idea that I had to be 'in love.' Now I see what it really takes: real consideration that you're a good team together."

The actress said she most wanted to make things work with her Godfather costar and boyfriend of five years Al Pacino, whom she once considered tying the knot with.

"But he was even less inclined to be realistic than me," Keaton said. "And I was on the cusp of being very old. So that poor guy. I don't think he was really that interested. And I don't think a long-term happy marriage would be easy for him."

The author of upcoming memoir "Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty," which will hit book shelves on Tuesday, said she's still open to finding lasting love, "but I can't imagine it. You have to put yourself out there, and that's really hard for me. Always was."

For now, Keaton spends her time with close friends like Jack Nicholson and admiring her "wall of men," which are pictures the actress has collected of men with considered beautiful, including Sam Shepard and Jeremy Renner.
