Chris Martin has opened up for the first time about his unexpected split with Gwyneth Paltrow, just one month after the actress and Coldplay front man announced their separation.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, Marin talks about the end of his ten-year marriage to the actress and the life "challenges" he has faced. A black-and-white teaser of the interview has been released, ahead of the full spot's Monday airing.

"Everyone in their life goes through challenges - whether it is love or money or kids or illness," the 37-year-old rock star said, in a preview clip of the sit-down interview. "Whether it's love or money or kids or illness."

Martin added: "There have been a lot of false headlines recently, but this would be a real one, so you can write that if you like. I'll give you a quote ... I did."

In late March, Paltrow and Martin announced they were separating in a joint statement titled, "Conscious Uncoupling" on the Oscar winner's lifestyle website, Goop. The couple married in December 2003 and have two children, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.

Their statement read, "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

The interview will focus on his life and music, including his band's upcoming album "Ghost Stories." Martin also added in the interview that he thinks One Direction are "brilliant."
