Facebook, Inc. has bought the app Moves, which keeps track of a person's exercise routine and the places they visit.

The announcement was made by ProtoGeo Oy, the company that created Moves, in a blog posted on Thursday, according to CNET.

Officials frrom the social networking site said Moves will be kept as a standalone app. No additional details about the deal were revealed.

ProtoGeo Oy's founders said that the Moves staff will join Facebook's staff to "work on building and improving their products and services," TechCrunch reported.

Moves said that Facebook is not looking to add the app's data to their social services. Since its debut launch in January, Moves has gained over four million downloads through Android and iOS.

The app can track different forms of fitness, such as jogging, walking and bike riding, CNET reported. The device uses a map to keep track of locations users visit, and stores the route they took to get there.

Facebook has addressed concerns about privacy due to the app's ability to track a person's daily activities.

"For those of you that use the Moves app - the Moves experience will continue to operate as a standalone app, and there are no plans to change that or commingle data with Facebook," Moves said in the blog.

Users can also manually enter data into the app. The startup said Moves supports over 60 predefined types of activity. Moves can also function as a pedometer, plotting the user's daily movements on a map for further analysis later on, Apple Insider reported.

The cost of the deal was not revealed, but a Facebook spokesperson said that the price was not as high as Facebook's recent purchases of Oculus and WhatsApp.

Facebook released another statement regarding the deal, CNET reported.

"As part of Facebook's multi-app strategy, we're excited to announce that the popular Moves app will be joining Facebook's suite of applications," the company said. "Key members of Moves will be joining Facebook at our headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. The Moves app will continue to run as a separate, standalone application. The Moves team has built an incredible tool for the millions of people who want to better understand their daily fitness activity, and we're looking forward to the app continuing to gain momentum."
