The GameSpy Technology shutdown has caused 2K Games to make changes to their online services.

2K Games will be temporarily terminating the online service for "Borderlands 1" and select titles from "Civilization" as they transition to Steamworks, according to a news release.

"Starting May 31, Borderlands 1 PS3 and Civilization Revolution PS3 will also go offline as a result of GameSpy Technology's online service termination," 2K stated in their blog. "We are currently investigating the technical feasibility of transitioning those titles. Again, players will not experience interruptions to offline play for these titles. We will provide updates as they become available."

The transition will not affect offline gameplay. The following list includes other 2K titles affected by the online migration:

Borderlands® (PC)
Civilization® III
Civilization® III: Conquests
Civilization® III: Play the World
Civilization® IV
Civilization® IV: Beyond the Sword
Civilization® IV: Colonization

Gamespy announced in April the company would be shutting down as of May 31.

"On May 31st, the company is shutting down its servers for good, and as a result, a bunch of games are losing their online capabilities," Engadget reports. "For console games, that largely amounts to multiplayer. For certain PC titles though, that also includes authentication servers for CD keys -- losing those means losing access to the game itself."
