A woman was fatally shot outside of a mall in Georgia on Monday and the alleged shooter was also found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Violet Lambert, 55, was shot in the parking lot of the Cumberland Mall around 2:30 p.m. She was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

"According to witnesses, the male who shot her got into a white van and was last seen leaving the area," Pierce said in an email. "A short time later, the white van was discovered parked at a residence in East Point."

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives, East Point Police, and a Fulton County SWAT team entered the home and discovered Danny Wray Brown, 59, dead from a gunshot wound.

Pierce said Brown knew Lambert prior to the shooting and added he also opened fire at a good samaritan who tried to help the victim, but missed.

The shooting on Monday was the second to occur in the past three days. On Saturday, a security guard was fatally shot at the Town Center at Cobb. The alleged shooter in Saturday's shooting also died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Journal-Constitution said.

In 2011, George Tabetando was shot and killed in the mall's parking lot the day after Thanksgiving. The next year, Rosano Wensley Bundel was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

"Shootings are going in the schools, they're going on in churches and they're going on in shopping centers," resident Bobbe Pharr told the Journal-Constitution. "It's crazy. It's not even safe to hardly get out and do anything anymore."
