A suspect in the Kansas City highway shootings was arrested on Thursday, the Kansas City Star reported.

The name of the suspect has not been released. On Twitter, Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forté said more details would be released at a news conference on Friday.

The arrest was made after authorities surrounded a home in Grandview, the Star said. According to neighbors, the suspect appeared to be a male in his 20s.

The home is not far from Interstate 49 and Three Trails Crossing, where the seven shootings occurred.

Following the arrest, authorities searched the home and also towed a dark green Dodge Neon with an Illinois license plate, the Star said.

Later on Thursday, Forté said he could not provide further details yet but wants everyone to know that an arrest was made.

"We want to make sure the residents and those who travel through Kansas City know that they are safe," he said.

The police chief mentioned no charges had been filed and an investigation is ongoing. He also thanked all of the law enforcement officials involved in the search and said the community "stepped up" to lead officers to an arrest.

"Without the people in this community, we wouldn't be where we are," he said.

Capt. Tye Grant, a spokesman for the police department, agreed with Forté, mentioning the public offered lots of tips that ultimately led to the arrest.

"We got a lot of tips, and those tips were important," Grant told the Star. "It was also incredible work by law enforcement officers. They just didn't give up. You've got a lot of officers who haven't slept in weeks."

The frightening shootings began on March 8 and April 6, investigators said. In the 12 shootings connected to the suspect, three people were injured.
