HBO showrunners promised fans season four would be the most action-packed of the series yet and the Purple Wedding has exceeded all expectations.

The second episode of season four begins with Ramsay Snow on a hunt with his partner Myranda and slave Reek, formerly known as Theon Greyjoy. Ramsay is on a sadistic manhunt for a woman who he claims made his hunting partner jealous. Myranda shoots her with an arrow and Ramsay commands his hunting dogs to rip the girl alive.

Ramsay is reunited with his father Roose Bolton, who scolds him for the way he treated Theon. Roose explains to Ramasy he needed Theon in one piece in order to barter with the Greyjoy family and he has ruined his plans. However, Ramasy orders "Reek" to shave him in front of his father to prove how useful he is to them now.

Ramsay orders Reek to reveal to his father that he didn't kill the Stark boys when he took over Winterfell. Roose is taken back by Theon's obedience to Ramasy and orders them to head to Castle Black to see if Jon Snow is hiding his younger brothers. Meanwhile Bran continues his travels north of the wall in order to find the three-eyed raven.

While the Bolton house plots to find the Stark boys, Stannis Baratheon sacrifices three men to the Lord of Light to show his faith. Stannis' wife reveals their daughter Shireen won't practice their faith and wants to strike her in order keep her in line. Stannis orders his wife to not touch his daughter and she agrees, but asks the Red Witch Melisandre to speak with her about their God. Melisandre explains to Shireen there are only two Gods and on hell, which they are living in right now.

Then comes the royal wedding. Before the festivities begin, King Joffery is presented with gifts from his family. Tyrion Lannister gifts his nephew with a book filled with the history of four kings. Joffery is seemingly annoyed by the present, but thanks his uncle for the book anyway. Tywin Laninister gifts his grandson with a Valyrian steel sword crafter from Robb Stark's former weapon. Joffery is overcome with joy and starts whacking the book Tyrion gave him for "practice."

Magaery Tyrell and King Joffery have their royal ceremony and are officially man and wife. The couple heads to their feast, in which Joffery takes every opportunity to torment Sansa Stark and his Uncle Tyrion. Joffery introduces stage play of dwarf actors who portray the history of the Westeros. They mock the death of Remly Baratheon and Robb Stark, which makes Loras Tyrell and Sansa Stark cringe.

Eventually Joffery gets bored of the stage play and orders Tyrion to join. Tyrion fires back claiming Joffery should fight his own battles as King, which infuriates him. Joffery then pours wine over Tyrion's head and orders him to be his cupbearer for the rest of the festivities. Joffery intentionally drops the cup in front of everyone so Tyrion had to pick it up. Sansa finds the cup under the table and hands it to the Tyrion, who fills the glass with wine. Joffery orders Tyrion to kneel before him, but he refuses. Sensing the tension, Margaery distracts everyone by pointing out the arrival of the wedding pie. Joffery takes his new sword and cuts into, taking a bite of his pie and drinking the wine.

Joffery then begins to choke. At first he believes it's from the pie being too dry, but he soon realizes something is terribly wrong. He falls to the ground and beings to throw up. However, it's too late for the young king, whose skins quickly turns purple as he gasps for air. Blood runs out of his mouth and nose and within a matter of minutes he is dead with his mother Cersei by his side. Cersei accuses Tyrion of killing Joffery before the feast crowd, ending the show.
