A Florida man wanted by police for causing a deadly car crash into a day care center turned himself into authorities on Thursday, FoxNews.com reported.

Robert Alex Corchado, 28, was charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident and is being held on $100,000 bail, according to the Orange County Corrections Department. A hearing is scheduled for Friday.

Corchado allegedly surrendered after the mother of the girl who died in the crash begged him to come forward, FoxNews.com said.

On Wednesday, Corchado was driving a Dodge Durango that crashed into a convertible, causing the car to jump the curb and crash through a KinderCare building near Orlando. As a result, 4-year-old Lily Quintus died and 15 others -- mostly children -- were injured.

By the end of the week, ten people remained hospitalized, including one child in critical condition and two others who are in serious condition, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Corchado has a lengthy list of previous criminal activity, with a total of eight arrests since 2000.

His most recent arrest, in December, was for a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, a felony charge of selling narcotics, and felony marijuana possession. Corchado pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released of $10,000 bond.

The driver of the convertible, Albert Dean Campbell, 61, was not injured in the crash. Although Corchado fled the scene in his car, the Dodge Durango was discovered parked at a Winter Park home about two hours after the incident.

"As a grandfather of three young children, I can't imagine losing such a precious life at such a young age," Gov. Rick Scott said in a statement  on Wednesday. "Today's hit-and-run was an act of cowardice, and members of the Florida Highway Patrol are working closely with local law enforcement to bring those who caused this crash to justice."
