HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" has signed on for two more seasons on the heels of a record-breaking premiere.

The show announced on their Facebook account HBO has signed on for more seasons.  "Game of Thrones" premiere on Sunday, April 6 to 6.6 million viewers, the most the network has seen since the finale of "The Sopranos."  The season four premiere was up 2.2 million from its season three opener, according to MTV.

Though the show is expected to end with about seven or eight seasons, "Game of Thrones" writer George R.R. Martin told The Hollywood Reporter the story might continue on in franchise films.

"It all depends on how long the main series runs," Martin told THR back in March. "Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."

Martin revealed to THR he has considered continuing the "Game of Thrones" franchise through the prequels he's rewritten for the series.

"They could be the basis for [a film]," Martin said. "I have written these three stories, and I have about a dozen more."

However, the "Game of Thrones" author's biggest concern is finishing the final installment before HBO catches up to him.

"Hopefully, I will be able to finish it at seven books," Martin told Vanity Fair.  "It's big, you know? And the truth is, it's not a trilogy. It's one long novel. A really, really long novel. It's one story. And when it's all done, they'll put it out in a box set, and if anyone is still reading it twenty years from now, or a hundred years from now, they'll read it all together. They'll read it from beginning to end, and they'll lose track, as I do, of what occurred in what book."
