After not using his Twitter account for more than a year, Vice President Joe Biden uploaded a tweet on Monday as he prepares for this year's midterm elections.

"Dusting off the Twitter handle for a big midterm election year. Let's get to it, folks!--Joe," the tweet read.

According to POLITICO, the @JoeBiden account is managed by Democratic Party staffers and was used mostly during the 2012 election. Since early 2013, Biden has been using his official account, @VP, to tweet.

Still, the vice president's personal account has nearly 200,000 more followers than his official one.

Also on Monday was the release of a video produced by the Democratic National Committee, featuring Biden urging Americans to fight "voter suppression efforts nationwide."

"I've got to tell you, if someone had told me 10 years ago I'd have to make a pitch for protecting voting rights today, I would have said, 'you've got to be kidding,'" Biden says in the video.

Biden decries how at least 11 states have introduced legislation that would require photo identification at polls or strengthening identification laws that already exist.

Democrats and Republicans regularly debate photo ID laws and whether they're necessary to protect our voting system or are meant to keep out certain groups from the polls.

Last month, former President Bill Clinton also spoke in a DNC video criticizing voter ID laws.

"There is no greater assault on our core values than the rampant efforts to restrict the right to vote," Clinton said.
