Mickey Rooney Dies at 93: Hollywood Actor’s Wife Learns of Death via Gossip Site, Had Not Seen Husband in a Year?

Legendary actor Mickey Rooney died on Sunday, Apr. 6 in his North Hollywood home at the age of 93. His former manager, Kevin Pawley, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said that Rooney was surrounded by his family when he died.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rooney's wife was, Janice Chamberlain, was not present at the time of his death and said she hadn't seen her husband in a year. Chamberlain told THR that she found out about Rooney's death through TMZ.

According to reports, the family was torn apart after the actor accused Chamberlain's son, Christopher Aber, of starving him and withholding medication from him. The Daily Mail reports that in 2011, Rooney testified before Congress about the abuse of the elderly.

He alleged that one of his family members was taking and misusing his money and had left him powerless.

"I felt trapped, scared, and frustrated," he told a special Senate committee considering legislation to curb abuses of senior citizens. "But above all, when a man feels helpless, it's terrible."

"All I want to do is live a peaceful life, to regain my life and be happy," the actor wrote to his fans at the time. "I pray to God each day to protect us, help us endue and guide those other senior citizens who are also suffering."

Aber has not addressed the allegations but did thank people for their prayers and said that Rooney will buried in "Westlake Village at the Pierce Brothers cemetery. Thank you for all your prayers."

At the time of his death, Rooney had been working on several projects including a movie called "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," and a third sequel to "Night at the Museum."
