Microsoft is having a successful week with its Office for iPad as the app has been downloaded more than 12 million times from Apple App Store.

Microsoft, the biggest software company, announced a new milestone for its Office suite for iPad devices. The Redmond software giant shared impressive statistic for Office, which was announced for Apple's large screen tablets last week. In a tweet from the company's official Twitter account, Thursday, Microsoft said Office for iPad has surpassed 12 million downloads from Apple App Store in just one week. The suite of apps that helped Microsoft achieve the new milestone includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, all of which are available as individual downloads.

Microsoft launched the long-awaited Office for iPad suite at a press conference in San Francisco, last Thursday. All apps in the Office suite are available as free downloads. Microsoft has made the apps' basic functionality, viewing documents, free of charge, but turned to subscription if users want to create or edit documents. The subscription can be of users' choice, $9.99 for a month or $99.99 for a year. College students get a discounted rate of $79.99 for four years of membership. OneNote is independent of an Office 365 subscription to create and edit notes.

"We're extremely pleased with the Office for iPad interest we've seen from consumers and business alike. We have no additional details to share," Microsoft said in a statement, Seattle Times reports.

While the impressive download figure means good news for the software giant, there is no indication of how many free downloads of Office apps turned into revenue for the company.

The entry of Office suite on iPad has made an impactful debut. CloudOn launched its own version of Office for iPad two years ago and even after 10 months the app was downloaded 3.5 million times. Microsoft's download figure for Office on iPad is three times more than CloudON's figure and in just one week. This clearly shows the software giant is making a lasting impression with its new expansion.

Apple iPad users can download the individual apps of Office suite, WordExcelPowerPoint and OneNote from the App Store.
