Pharrell Williams was officially announced as a new coach for Season 7 of "The Voice." The NBC show made the announcement on Twitter writing: "Okay, we can OFFICIALY say it! WE ARE SO #HAPPY to announce PHARRELL WILLIAMS = #NEWVOICECOACH for SEASON 7."

"This is going to be so fun," Williams responded on Twitter.

NBC boss Paul Telegdy explained in a statement (via E! News) why the singer is an "irresistible addition" to the singing competition show.

"It's been a huge year for Pharrell, with recognition for his contribution in the world of music - the 'Despicable Me' franchise soundtracks, his Oscar-nominated song 'Happy' and his Grammy-winning collaboration with Daft Punk on the breakout dance hit 'Get Lucky.' His dominance in record sales in 2014, coupled with his incompatible accomplishments in the world of fashion and design, make him an irresistible addition to 'The Voice' family. He has already made a considerable impact as a mentor, drawing on an impressive track record as both a producer and performer. It is a perfect fit for 'The Voice' as we evolve and reach for new heights with this franchise. It feels like we are welcoming an existing family member home."

According to Variety, Williams will replace current judge Cee Lo Green, who surprisingly announced in February during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," that he wasn't returning for the new season.

"I'm not coming back at all," Green said. "I just don't want to wear out my welcome there, you know what I'm saying? I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven't released an album in four years. I'm almost done with my album."

According to rumors, Green might not be the only "Voice" coach getting replaced. There were reports that producers wanted to find someone to take Christina Aguilera's place for Season 7. News broke that Aguilera was pregnant with her second child shortly after Green announced his departure.

"They will have to replace Christina as she will be focused on her upcoming child and will not be able to focus on the demands that 'The Voice' puts on the judges," a source told Hollywood Life.

According to E! the rest of the judges will be announced at a later date.
