Darren Aronofsky almost snagged fellow director Zack Snyder's job on the "Batman vs. Superman" production.

In an interview with MTV News, Aronofsky explained to reporter Josh Horowitz he would have taken the "Man of Steel" spot if Snyder hadn't landed the gig. The "Noah" director called Superman the "best superhero," who is matched by "Batman."

Aronofsky admitted her spoke to a few Warner Bros. executives about the job, including "The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan, who is a producer for the "Man of Steel" franchise.

"I thought Zack was a great choice, and I loved his 'Watchmen' movie," Aronofsky told MTV. "I thought it was great. I thought that as a fan of the comic, you couldn't hope for a better interpretation. I liked the orthodoxy of it."

"It was interesting to add the pathos that they put into the character," he added, referring to "The Man of Steel" plot. "It's a hard one to do. You look at what Christopher Reeve did, and it was perfect, because it captured that 'good old boy' thing. But to try and redo that again and bring that for a modern audience is tough in a post-'Batman' and 'Wolverine' world. It's hard to do that."

Aronofsky isn't the only one excited for the "Batman vs. Superman" film. "The Dark Knight Rises" star Anne Hathaway told MTV news she would consider taking on the Selina Kyle role again if the production wanted her back.

Though stepping into Catwoman's jumpsuit again doesn't seem likely to Hathaway, she did offer some advice to Jesse Eisenberg as he steps into the role of Lex Luthor in "Batman vs. Superman."

"I wish I could say something, but it's going to be his experience," Hathaway told Total Film. "Keep a journal, which I'm sure he does some version of that already, just to remember it. Don't be afraid to make it your own. In my case, people criticized, criticized, criticized until they saw it, and then a lot of people liked what I did. Don't listen to anyone, do your thing. They cast you for a reason. I think he'll be remarkable, I'm excited to see it."

"Batman vs. Superman" is slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
