Screenwriter David Goyer knows the pressure is on regarding the "Batman vs. Superman" script, but won't let himself get distracted by the hype surrounding the film.

In an interview with Collider, Goyer explained it is a balancing act when it comes to staying true to the character's history while creating a new experience for fans.

"I always try my best to honor every character," Goyer told Collider.  "When you're dealing with big iconic characters, there's a lot of fan pressure to get it right, and I respect that and admire that passion enormously.  At the same time, you can't let your creative process be too crowded by that or distracted by it."

"It's not always one uniform opinion of how you should portray this character or that character," he added.  "I think I've done a pretty good job of walking that razor's edge.  You just have to do your best and know what's out there, but at the same time, follow your own muse."

Goyer recently told Comic Book Resources he wasn't interested in what fans had to say about the film online.

"You're dealing with an incredibly vocal but incredibly tiny sort of [group]," Goyer said.  "That's a mistake that I think a lot of sometimes networks and movie studios make is sort of listening too much to [them]. I mean, it's important to listen to the fan chatter but you're really talking about a tiny, tiny, tiny portion of your audience that may not be representative of what your mainstream audience actually thinks or feels."

"I mean, I don't read everything that's out there," the writer later stated in the CBR interview.  "I wouldn't have the time. But we're aware of some of it, yeah, and it would be silly not to be. I think it's helpful, but at the same time, it's also, and I'm paraphrasing Steve Jobs, it's like you don't give the audience or the consumer what they want, you give them what they don't even know they want."

"Batman vs. Superman" will be released on May 6, 2016.
