Remove AI Overviews Results on Google Search With This Unpopular Search Modifier Hack

Your Google Search can now look like the pre-AI era version again.

Google Chrome Search

Since the wide adoption of AI, Google has been one of the companies to apply it to almost everything, including their Search product.

Not everyone has been a fan of the AI Overviews feature Google has introduced, but there is a new and easy way to remove it if it bugs you.

AI Overviews May Be Removed From Google Search

According to a new report by 9to5Google, there is a not-so-well-known way to remove the AI Overviews results from all your Google Search results, and it's none other than by using "Search Modifier."

Based on the report, Google has long had Search Modifiers, or "Operators," on the platform to help users refine their search experience.

One example is by adding quotation marks (" ") to specific words so Google will look for the exact spelling and how it was typed all over the web.

However, it is important to note that this is not a permanent solution, meaning that users need to do this all the time for all of their searches in order to avoid seeing AI Overviews.

Google Search Modifiers Bring Unpopular Fix

AI Overviews offer a quick and easy way to get the summary of all top results and useful information regarding the topic users searched for in seconds, but that may not be appealing to all.

For those who want authentic, real webpage results and links, the -ai hack is the way to go.

The hack discovered by 9to5Google only requires users to add an "-ai" to all of their search queries on the Google Search engine and then hit enter to have the platform go about and do the work for them.

It is important to note that users need to add this phrase after the word, with only one space after their query and without the quotation marks.

For example, they may look for the iPhone 18 release date on Google to read specific articles and not the one collated by AI Overviews and summarized for them. They need to input "iPhone 18 release date -ai" in the search bar, press enter, and voila, AI-free results await them.
