Television personality Kevin Trudeau, who gained fame and fortune with his self-help books and shows on how to find sweet deals, has been sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison.

A Chicago court found 51-year-old Trudeau guilty of criminal contempt, after he breached a 2004 federal order barring him from releasing inaccurate infomercials and writing misleading weight-loss books.

United States District Judge Ronald Guzman chided Trudeau's questionable practices during Monday's sentencing hearing, reps from the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago told CNN.

"Since the age of 25, [Trudeau] has attempted to cheat others for his own personal gain," Guzman announced during the sentencing on Monday.

Prosecutors also sided with Guzman's opinions on the self-help guru, who made a killing informing consumers on how to get free money, shed pounds and cure a host of illnesses using natural remedies.

In their sentencing statement, lawyers described Trudeau as an "unrepentant, untiring, and uncontrollable huckster who has defrauded the unsuspecting for 30 years."

The federal government has kept Trudeau in custody since his November 2013 conviction of criminal contempt, CNN reported on Monday.

According to evidence shown at Trudeau's trial, the 51-year-old made appearances in three different infomercials between 2006 and 2007. Legal reps contended Trudeau didn't accurately describe the content in a weight-loss book he'd penned.

CNN reported that the United States attorney stated the infomercials were completely false, and broke the 2004 agreement that barred Trudeau from making such infomercials.

Tom Kirsch, Trudeau's defense attorney, said the 51-year-old will appeal the ruling.

Trudeau's book covers state that many of his self-help reads have taken the New York Times bestseller list's number one spot.
