Sprint announced Monday that it has launched the high-speed 4G LTE network in 20 new markets bringing the total to 402 cities in the U.S.

Sprint, the third largest wireless carrier in the U.S., announced the launch of 4G LTE network in 20 new markets, adding to the fast-growing high-speed data coverage across the country. With the expansion, Sprint aims at connecting 250 million people with its 4G LTE network by mid-year. The company is trying hard to compete against bigger players like AT&T and Verizon to achieve a dominant position in the wireless industry.

Sprint also announced the expansion of Sprint Spark, which is the carrier's faster and more reliable LTE coverage that delivers top speeds of 60Mbps on supported devices. The carrier said Spark was available in Provo, Utah, and Trenton, New Jersey. Pravo customers can now use HD Voice. Customers in Trenton will soon be getting HD Voice in their area, Sprint said.

"Sprint's all-new network is providing our customers significantly better call quality and faster data speeds in more places," John Saw, chief network officer at Sprint, said in a press release, Monday. "Customers in Provo and Trenton will be particularly pleased with the power of Sprint Spark - say goodbye to slow downloads and content that lags."

Sprint Spark is an improved LTE network that uses a unique combination of network technologies, spectrum capacity and tri-band devices. The high-speed tri-band LTE service is available in selective markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Tampa and Miami with an aim to cover 100 U.S. markets soon. The carrier currently has the service in only 18 markets. The carrier offers 4G-supported devices including Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One Max and LG G2.
