Google is cutting down on the subscription prices of the Google Drive cloud storage service by 80 percent, giving 100GB for just $1.99 per month.

Google, the biggest internet search company in the world, dramatically dropped the prices for Google Drive cloud storage subscriptions turning the competitive market upside down. The latest move marks a significant shift in the cloud storage space, mainly at a time when most people rely on digital storage over built-in and external drives. The new price drop follows a previous one just two years ago. The basic 15GB storage on Google Drive is still offered for free and those who need more can pay as little as $1.99 per month for 100GB cloud storage.

Google's massive discount on its cloud storage subscriptions comes as a huge welcome for Chromebook owners, as on device storage is minimal. With the growing demand for Chromebooks, Google Drive subscriptions are likely to go up massively.

New Prices

While Google's paid subscriptions for its cloud storage starts at as low as $1.99 for 100GB instead of $4.99, the bigger storage plans gets a whole lot better. The next plan on the chart, offering 1 TB of storage, comes with an unbelievable price. The 1TB storage subscription, which was originally valued at $49.99 per month, has come down to just $9.99 each month.

Small businesses or consumers highly dependent on cloud storage can benefit from Google's next plan. The monstrous 10TB storage on Google Drive will cost $99.99 per month. Each 10TB after that will cost the same $99.99. This is highly unusual for normal consumers to opt for but useful for businesses dependent on cloud storage.

"Whether it's all the footage of your kids' baseball games, the novel you're working on, or even just your grocery list for the week, we all have files that are too important to lose," Google's director of product management, Scott Johnston, said in an official blog post, Thursday. "Today, thanks to a number of recent infrastructure improvements, we're able to make it more affordable for you to keep everything safe and easy to reach on any device, from anywhere."

Comparison

Google's new pricing is not only affordable for consumers with different storage requirements, but also beats out the competition with a huge margin. On comparison, Microsoft offers 100GB cloud storage on its OneDrive cloud storage for $49, and Dropbox offers the same for $99 per year. With Google, the annual price for 100GB storage comes up to $23.88, which is less than half of what other companies demand.

Google Apps Referral Program

Google means hardcore business with its latest changes. Earlier this week, the web giant announced Google Apps for Business Referral Program. With the new program, Google is giving a chance to individuals to earn $15 for every successful signup. The new customer must be referred by you and pay for the service for at least 3 months before Google credits your account with the promised reward. Google has launched the program in the United States and Canada for the time being. Referees can ask new customers to sign up for different Google apps and services including Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, Docs, Hangouts, Sites, Vault, Sheets, Slides, among others.
