In the midst of an argument in a Chicago West Side apartment, a woman fought off her attacker when she fatally stabbed him with a knife as he tried to choke her.

Police say the woman stabbed the man in the neck before he fled the apartment and checked into a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

She was taken to a hospital for bruising to the face and body, according to ABC 7.

The relationship between the two individuals is unknown as CPD detectives continue to investigate the incident.

The woman has not been taken into custody.
