Concerns of a coup attempt in Haiti have risen after a brutal gang leader warned the country in a video posted to social media.

Jimmy 'Barbecue' Cherizier has called for a "bloody revolution" in the country.

"Whether or not you're installed, this message is for you: Brace yourselves," Barbecue said in the new message reviewed by the Daily Mail.

Barbeque is believed to have gotten his nickname due to his alleged role in burning down 400 homes in a Haitian slum. He has likened himself to revolutionaries like Che Guevara and Malcolm X.

Chérizier often claims that he is fighting the Haitian government on behalf of the country's impoverished and underserved people - describing his gang as "a sociopolitical structure and force that is fighting on behalf of the vulnerable," in an interview with Vice.

Ariel Henry officially resigned as prime minister on Thursday, paving the way for a new government to be formed in the Caribbean country, according to the Associated Press.

The 74-year-old prime minister had faced pressure to step down due to the escalating violence and lawlessness in the nation.

The country has been plagued by widespread gang violence since February. More than 2,500 people have been killed.

Henry has been outside of Haiti since the violence broke out. He sent his resignation from Los Angeles.

Gangs launched coordinated attacks on Feb. 29 in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and surrounding areas.
