The Republican also said that lawmakers who support aid to Ukraine should have to enlist in the Ukrainian army.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she is introducing amendments to the Ukraine and Israel spending bills for the use of "space lasers" on the southern border and a requirement for lawmakers who vote on the legislation to serve in the Ukrainian army.

The Georgia Republican, who opposes aid to Ukraine and has been at the front of a movement to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson for bringing up the bills in the House, proposed the amendments Wednesday evening.

"Israel has some of the best unmanned defense systems in the world. I've previously voted to fund space lasers for Israel's defense," she wrote on her X account, linking to a copy of the amendment.

"America needs to take our national security seriously and deserves the same type of defense for our border that Israel has and proudly uses," she continued.

Greene said her colleagues who back the Ukraine aid package should have to serve.

"If you want to fund the endless foreign wars, you should have to go fight them. That's why I'm introducing an amendment that would require any Member of Congress who votes for the multibillion $ Ukraine supplemental to enlist in Ukraine's military," she said on X.

Johnson, a Republican, is expected to bring the foreign aid package to a vote this week in three separate bills - one for Israel, one for Ukraine and a separate one for Taiwan.

Greene, who has a history of making outlandish comments and spreading conspiracy theories, blamed lasers in outer space for starting the 2018 wildfires in California.
