An officer of the Syracuse Police Department and a deputy of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office were both shot dead in a residential area of the Syracuse suburb of Salina in upstate New York on Sunday night (Apr. 14).

According to Syracuse.com, the officer down call went out at 20:51 (00:51 UTC). Police at the scene also reported a third person was possibly shot, but it was unclear if the person was involved in the shooting or merely a bystander.

Law enforcement officers were responding to a call of a stolen car before they reached a house where the deadly shooting happened, WSYR reported.

Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelly also told a press conference that a suspect has been taken into custody and that there was no threat to the community.
