The APD’s Horse Mounted Unit chases a suspect into traffic before apprehending him.

New Mexico police mounted on horseback chased down an alleged shoplifter in a wild scene caught on body cam footage released Friday.

A Walgreens in Albuquerque alerted cops on March 20 that the store had just been hit by a theft, according to authorities.

Officers already patrolling the area on horseback responded and spotted suspect Mark Chacon, officials said.

When Chacon allegedly ignored their orders to stop and ran off on foot, the mounted officers gave chase through the city's streets, the video shows.

The officers managed to safely stop Chacon after he ran into traffic, authorities said.

Chacon allegedly stole merchandise worth $230 and now faces charges including shoplifting, eluding/evading police on foot, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
