French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal says the country has raised its terror level after the attack in Russia.

France has raised its terror alert level to the highest possible in the wake of the terror attack in Russia.

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced the move in a post on X on Sunday after a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron and security officials.

He said the decision was made, "Given the Islamic State's claim of responsibility for the attack and the threats weighing on our country."

Paris will host the Olympic Games this summer and there are concerns it could be targeted.

France's terror alert system has three levels.

The highest level brings increased security measures such as more security in train stations, airports and religious sites, according to Reuters.

At least 133 people were killed at the Crocus City Hall concert venue on Friday night. More than 140 people were also reported injured.

The attack has been claimed by an affiliate of the Islamic State group, ISIS-K.

New York-based diplomacy think tank Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) published an analysis of the Moscow shooting attack over the weekend, claiming that the "Khorasan Province" of the Islamic State (ISIS-K), which has claimed responsibility for the mass shooting, has global ambitions of furthering a self-proclaimed caliphate.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has tried to tie Ukraine to the attack. Ukraine has strongly denied any involvement in the attack.

Russia observed a day of national mourning on Sunday.
