Starbucks recalls holiday mugs that overheat and break, causing injuries.

More than 440,000 Starbucks mugs have been recalled by Nestle USA, as they allegedly pose burn and laceration risks due to overheating and breakage.

The recall specifically highlights four 2023 holiday gift sets that included 11 oz. and, 16 oz. Starbucks-branded ceramic mugs with metallic coating: The Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs, the Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, the Starbucks Peppermint Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug, and the Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug.

The mugs were sold online as part of a gift set, as well as in-store at Target, Walmart, and military retail outlet Nexcom from November 2023 through January 2024 for approximately $10, $14, or $20, according to a recall notice posted Thursday by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Twelve incidents were reported in which the mugs overheated or broke when used in a microwave or filled with extremely hot liquid. Ten injuries, including nine severe burns and blisters on fingers or hands, as well as one cut finger, are a few of the happening experiences.

Consumers have been warned to stop using the mugs immediately and informed that they can be returned to the original place of purchase.
