Former President Donald Trump and several of his co-defendants in a Georgia election interference case made a renewed push Monday to sideline prosecutor Fani Willis, days after a judge ruled that she could stay on.

The group filed for a "certificate of immediate review" in Fulton County Superior Court, which would allow them to formally appeal the Friday ruling allowing Willis to move forward with the case so long as special prosecutor Nathan Wade - with whom she had a prior romantic relationship - did not.

Wade resigned hours after Friday's ruling was handed down.

Trump and his co-defendants previously sought to have Willis removed as prosecutor, arguing that she and Wade received inappropriate financial benefits from their mutual work on the case. Willis and Wade both denied receiving any improper benefit.

In the case, Trump is accused of racketeering in an alleged scheme to overturn his narrow Georgia loss in the 2020 presidential election. He has pleaded not guilty.

If the certificate of review is granted, Trump and his co-defendants would be able to immediately appeal the ruling keeping Willis on the case. It would also afford Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election, another delay in the case as the White House race ramps up.

If the motion is denied, an appeal of Friday's Willis ruling could still be heard after the case is concluded.
