The U.K. released new data revealing that over 70% of trans prisoners are involved in brutal crimes. These include rape, pedophilia, violent robbery, grievous bodily harm, etc.

This raises concerns since some trans women-men who identify themselves as females-are placed in jails that are supposed to be exclusive to biological women.

Many people are worried that these trans men might attack female prisoners. The new data comes around a year after the British government launched a series of blocks, which enable biological males who identify as trans in women's cells.

According to Fox News' latest report, the U.K. government's latest data revealed that 74% of trans inmates are in prison because of brutal crimes.
Officials stated that 181 of the 244 transgender prisoners are imprisoned because of rape, grievous bodily harm, pedophilia, and other violent offenses.

When it comes to distributions, The Daily Mail UK reported that 144 trans women are placed in male cells. Meanwhile, only five are put in jails that are supposed to be for biological females.

Former prisoner governor Rhona Hotchkiss said that in her experience, most of the trans men didn't identify as females or disclose their gender identity until they came into contact with the justice system.

Although this is the case, she added that many of these trans prisoners were not inherently violent. Hotchkiss further stated that most of them had crime-free lives before they were sent to prison.

However, numerous women's groups are still concerned about the elevated figures of violent offenses from trans prisoners. They claim that these inmates don't belong in cells that are supposed to be for biological women.

"It is always an issue to have males who identify as women in women's prisons," said Hotchkiss.

"It's not necessarily always the physical threat that they experience but the re-traumatization, because many women in prison are already traumatized at the hands of men," she added.

Trans Women Make Female Inmates Unsafe

Prisoners at HMP (Her Majesty's Prison) Pentonville walk through an atrium May 19, 2003 in London. A new report from the Prison Reform Trust (PRT) says overcrowding in Britain's prisons has been caused by tougher sentencing rather than an increase in crime.

U.K.'s Ministry of Justice released the new data after a former female remand prisoner shared that a trans woman inmate became a threat inside a high-security cell for women.

The prisoner explained that the trans inmate was exploiting her position as physically stronger than other female inmates.

"She was not huge but very athletic and very strong and had all the physical features of a man. She was a bully and was very threatening and intimidating," stated the unnamed prisoner.

The inmate further stated that the belief that the trans woman prisoner should be housed in a male cell was unanimous among staff and other prisoners.
