The family of Kansas City FM radio station KKFI 90.1 DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan confirmed that she was killed in the mass shooting that also injured at least 20 others—including at least 11 children—at the tail-end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade in Union Station on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

The station and local authorities have also confirmed Lopez-Galvan's demise.

Three people have been detained by police in connection to the shooting, with at least one of them allegedly apprehended by fans after attempting to flee the scene. The exact circumstances and motive behind the shootings remain unclear as police investigations continue.

Chiefs players, including tight end and Taylor Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, expressed their grief in what was supposed to be a happy celebration.

Who was Lisa Lopez-Galvan?

According to the Kansas City Star, Lopez-Galvan co-hosted a weekly radio show on KKFI called "A Taste of Tejano," a celebration of Texan-Mexican music. She also played local weddings and promoted charity fundraisers.

She was survived by her husband and their two children.

"It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, host of Taste of Tejano, lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs' rally," the station said on Facebook. "This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community."

The Taste of Tejano page also changed its cover photo to a single candle and used Lopez-Galvan's photo as a profile picture. Her final stint at the show aired the night before the shooting.

"She was the most wonderful, beautiful person," KKFI newsroom executive administration assistant Lisa Lopez, who is not related to the deceased, told the Star. "She was a local DJ. She did everybody's weddings. We all know her. She was so full of life."

Calls for Gun Control

Jackson County, Missouri district legislator Manuel Abarca IV also paid tribute to her and pledged to her and her family - whom he personally knew "for over a decade" - to do more to bring in gun reforms.

"I will not let her death go in [vain]," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "I will legislate, I will fight, and I WILL do everything in my power to change this State and City for the better."

Both US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris responded to the shooting, calling for Congress to legislate gun control provisions.

"Today was supposed to be a day of celebration for a community of people to come together ... and yet it's another day where America experienced gun violence," Harris said before boarding Air Force Two bound for Munich Wednesday night. "It doesn't have to be this way."

In a statement released by the White House, Biden called on Americans to urge Congress to ban assault weapons, limit high-capacity magazines, strengthen background checks, and "keep guns out of the hands of those who have no business owning them or handling them."

"Today's events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting," he added. "What are we waiting for? What else do we need to see? How many more families need to be torn apart?"
