A US Marine Corps (USMC) CH-53E Super Stallion carrying five Marines went missing after it failed to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in southern California on Tuesday (Feb. 6).

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department told reporters on Wednesday (Feb. 7) that it deployed search-and-rescue units to look for the missing helicopter and the Marines onboard.

The Marine Corps issued a statement saying the Super Stallion assigned to the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing lifted off from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada to Miramar when it was reported overdue.
