Russia launched several waves of missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Wednesday morning (Feb. 7), with falling debris from the downed weapons cutting off electricity to parts of the capital.

According to the Telegram account of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, several waves of blasts rocked Kyiv during the attack due to the city's air defense systems shooting down the Russian missiles, Reuters reported.

At least two people were injured in the Dniprovskyi district that lies along the Dnipro River, Klitschko added.

On the other hand, a missile attack in Mykolaiv killed one person and damaged at least 20 residential buildings, with more injuries reported, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych said.

Meanwhile, DTEK - Ukraine's largest private energy company - said that some of the debris has managed to hit power lines in Dniprovskyi, leaving parts of the neighborhood without electricity.

The scale of the attack, which lasted several hours, was not immediately known, and there was no immediate response from Russia's defense ministry to reporters' request for comment.

Oleh Synehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region in Ukraine's northeast, added that Russian missiles also struck non-residential infrastructure in Kharkiv city, the administrative center of the region.
