The "Mass Effect" trilogy could make it to the PS4 and Xbox One before the upcoming "Mass Effect 4" title.

Aaron Flynn, general manager of BioWare's Edmonton and Montreal studios, responded to a fan on Twitter regarding a question about the trilogy being remastered for the next-gen consoles.

"We have discussed [a remaster] internally. If we can put solid plans together we'll share. Great to hear you're keen," Flynn wrote on his official Twitter account.

However, it remains unclear if the project will happen or how long it will take to develop. The gaming studio is also hard at work with "Mass Effect 4" and fans of the franchise would more likely want to play the new installment rather than a remaster.

BioWare community manager Chris Priestly recently cleared up some confusion relating to the title "Mass Effect 4" in the company's official forums. According to Eurogamer, Priestly reiterated that the upcoming installment will not follow the story of Commander Shepard and by calling it ME4 suggests to gamers it is a continuation of the story.

"To call the next game Mass Effect 4 or ME4 is doing it a disservice and seems to cause a lot of confusion here," Priestly wrote on BioWare's forums. "We have already said that the Commander Shepard trilogy is over and that the next game will not feature him/her. That is the only detail you have on the game. I see people saying 'well, they'll have to pick a canon ending'. No, because the game does not have to come after."

BioWare Montreal boss Yanick Roy responded to Priestly's comments, possibly hinting ME4's setting will take place after the trilogy.

"Thinking of the next Mass Effect game as Mass Effect 4 would imply a certain linearity, a straight evolution of the gameplay and story of the first three games," Roy wrote in the forum. "That doesn't mean that events of the first three games and the choices you made won't get recognized, but they likely won't be what this new story will focus on.

"If you had three games centered around a group of key soldiers in the US army during World War I and then decided to make a game about another group of people during the Second World War, the games could have many points in common and feel true to one another," he added.

BioWare has yet to confirm a release date for the in-development "Mass Effect 4."
