U.S. President Joe Biden's $5 billion infrastructure investment will soon be announced. This will happen once he visits to Superior, Wisconsin, on Thursday, Jan. 25.

He will specifically return to the John A. Blatnik Memorial Bridge; one of the two bridges that connects Minnesota (Duluth) to Wisconsin (Superior).

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visits workers near the John A. Blatnik Memorial Bridge in Superior, Wisconsin, on March 2, 2022.

When Biden first visited the Blatnik Bridge in 2022, he pointed out that the decades-old corrosion had already weakened the overpass. He also warned the decaying bridge could put Americans in danger.

Now, he will include the John A. Blatnik Memorial Bridge in his $5 billion infrastructure investment. Here are other things Americans can expect from this effort.

Joe Biden's $5 Billion Infrastructure Investment

According to CBS News' latest report, the $5 billion infrastructure investment will include 37 projects across the United States. At least 12 states are expected to benefit from these infrastructure efforts.

Most of the funds of the billion-dollar investment will go to repairs and new constructions of bridges. To give you more idea, here are some of the bridges and structures included in Joe Biden's $5 billion investment:

  • I-5 Bridge (Interstate Bridge): $600 million for its replacement.
  • Sagamore Bridge in Cape Cod, Massachusetts: $372 million.
  • John A. Blatnik Memorial Bridge: $1.06 billion for its replacement.

These are just some of the structures included in Joe Biden's latest infrastructure investment effort. Since it is a pretty big initiative, Olivia Dalton, the White House principal deputy press secretary, said that the president's upcoming Wisconsin visit will be a "full-circle moment" for him.

"He first visited the Blatnik Bridge about two years ago after the State of the Union in 2022 to talk about the important investments we're making through the bipartisan infrastructure law in America," said Dalton.

The upcoming Wisconsin visit of U.S. President Joe Biden is not an official presidential campaign event, as reported by ABC News. But, analysts said that it could help the American leader regain a key Democratic stronghold.

"This was the rock-solid Democratic core," explained the Center for Hubert H. Humphrey School and the Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota's Study of Politics and Governance Director Larry Jacobs.

"Over the last 20 years or so, that stronghold is gone," he added.

Aside from this, his visit also highlights Wisconsin's place as among the handful of genuine battleground states in politics.
