The Academy Awards revealed the nominees for this year's awards on Tuesday, Jan. 23 ahead of the Jan. 28 awards night.

As predicted in previous months, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" were poised to stack multiple nominations in this year's awards. However, "Poor Things" and Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" also received a sizable number of nominations.

Streaks, Surprises, and Snubs

Based on the Best Picture nominees, "Oppenheimer" grabbed the most nominations at 13, followed by "Poor Things" (11), "Killers of the Flower Moon" (10), and "Barbie" (8).

"Maestro" had seven nominations, "American Fiction," "Anatomy of a Fall," "The Holdovers," and "The Zone of Interest" had five nominations each, while "Past Lives" only had two - the other one being Best Original Screenplay.

Los Angeles Times film and television columnist Glenn Whipp also listed the surprises and snubs he noticed in this year's Oscars.

One of the major upsets he pointed out was the non-inclusion of Greta Gerwig of "Barbie" as Best Director and Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall) making the cut.

Other Oscar snubs Whipp listed were Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon), Margot Robbie (Barbie), Greta Lee (Past Lives), and Penélope Cruz for her role in "Ferrari."
